I'M A STAR!
Ok so today was my absolute last day as far as this year goes for my Wednesday school, Oyabu. I really enjoyed working here with all the teachers and students. I would say that Oyabu has the best student/teacher enthusiasm when it came to English. It does help when there is already a resident English teacher here teaching English 4 times a week. He was with me for all my lessons which made the teaching part really easy. And because he is a teacher that all the students know it was easy to keep discipline in the classes.
Anyway I come to school thinking that I need to make a speech in front of the whole school in some kind of assembly but when I got here no one mentioned anything. So I thought I was in the clear. Than when the principal came in, he told me that he forgot to tell everyone about my last day here. So I thinking that a last minute assembly is impossible but I forgot about one thing… the broadcasting room.
After lunch the English teacher, the principal, and I went to the broadcast room. I had to think of a speech fast since I totally thought I wasn’t gonna do one. Anyway I used the “I had lots of fun… thank you for welcoming me… please do your best in the future in regards to English…” speech, in Japanese… nah just joke. The English teacher was there to translate everything into Japanese for me. Anyway after I said my speech the principal came back on and told the whole school to give me applause. He also said to do it loud enough so I might hear everyone. And then the school basically started rumbling. I heard all the kids screaming and clapping and it was… glorious. I stepped out of the broadcast room and saw all the third graders in the hall screaming and hollering. When I looked out the window I saw the building across the way and it had students spilling out of the windows clapping and waving. I felt like a totally movie star! Even the first graders were waving and clapping, and I have never even had them before. Man what a feeling…
I think I’m gonna really miss this school. There is a chance that I might come back here but nothing is for sure in the land of Board of Education… actually next year I stat to teach at the junior high schools so if I were to get this district I would also get to see my old sixth graders.
The year went by so fast…
