Mid Week Update...
I noticed that I never blog on Tuesdays and that's because Tuesdays are my long days and I am without a computer all day until I get home. While at the other schools especially on wednesdays I have computer access. At my Wednesday school each teacher is given a laptop woth wireless connection hence my blogging every wednesday.
Today is no different then last week except for the fact that the English teacHer is here today. He wanted to teach the fifth graders about different feelings but it ended up stinking really bad. Even he knew because his face was in a sour pout the whole second half of the first period. So i ended up cHaning the lesson almost completely and the students liked it. He was even impressed that I came up with a quick lesson plan.
I kind of feel bad because I feel the lessons that these English teachers come up with are more geared towards younger grades. I think they feel that because English is new to most of them that they can do 1st grade curriculum. But the thing is that you can keep the same curriculum but when teaching a different (older) grade their interests are different so you need to change the activity. You can do a pretend store with second graders but use that with a sixth grade class and you're basically asking for it because they feel we're insulting their intelligence.
Every school that I go to I try to explain the danger in making the older kids do childish activities but they don't seem to understand. They always have to crash and burn first. Not to sound big headed, it really was good experience doing my placement in upper elementary. Damn maybe I am destined to be a teacher...
