School Daze
Another slow day at work. All of the 1st graders went to Yama no Ie (literal translation: Mountain’s house) today for a class trip. You might also remember the original name Camp Wannabitchsumor. I guess they would have more fun since they don’t have to deal with the hellions. With all the 1st graders gone the school feels so small. I kind of wish I could have went with them. Krystal was saying how she wouldn’t go if her school asked her but I think the first graders here are pretty good and it would be fun just playing around. I bet they would use all the facilities that we didn’t get to use at the kids camp.
We had our reflection meeting yesterday after work to talk about Camp Wannabitchsumor. It went pretty well and I tried not to bitch too much but when I started to get into the groove of pointing out everyone else’s faults I couldn’t stop. Well actually it wasn’t that bad it’s just that some people shouldn’t be volunteers and others should be more about discipline then being the kids’ best friends. I’m exaggerating because it wasn’t that bad. We actually had a lot of constructive criticism. It seems like the next cap is gonna be much better than this past one.
Well I was supposed to go to school today but I got permission to go to education center today since I didn’t have any lessons. Anyway no one is here and it’s kind of boring but at least I can pretend to work and watch anime or blog instead. Actually I tried going on AIM but it seems like you need a stronger connection than surfing the internet. I feel bad since I keep trying to talk to Joel but after a few sentences I get booted off. Sorry Joel.
So Lisa is supposed to go come tomorrow. We have an end of the year conference for JET people and it’s in Kobe! I heard so much about Kobe and how they have some really good food and cool places to go. I guess I’m looking forward to Lisa coming since the last time I saw her was in January. I think it‘s been the longest period of time without seeing her. I even did the gentlemanly thing and sold my JACK Johnson ticket so I could spend some time with her. We couldn’t get her tickets so I told Krystal to go and I could spend some time with Lisa. I know we’re probably gonna just watch anime or something but at least she doesn’t have to stay home by herself. And LISA DON’T WORRY I’m not the biggest JACK Johnson fan so I don’t mind at all. I rather go to a more rock type concert and I’m sure I’ll have a lot more chances so no worries.
Hopefully I can pretend to work the whole time. It is supposed to be a full 8 hour day even if I’m not doing anything. I wonder if I have enough anime to keep me company?
5 hours later…
Ok so I have about 35 minutes ago and what have I accomplished? Actually I did do some work. I tried to make a tentative curriculum for the elementary school that I had last year. It was a lot easier if you were a first year since you can pretty much teach anything but going back for the second year you have to think of different things to teach. I was debating for a long time if I should introduce phonics to the sixth graders. I was wondering if they would be able to do it. English language has so many different exceptions that sometimes how anyone could learn how to read, spell, and speak English if you weren’t a native speaker. For example teaching kids back home phonics is a little easier since they already have a vocabulary and they can somewhat tell when a word sounds funny using phonic rules. It seems like it’s gonna be super hard to do it with Japanese kids but at the same time if they got the phonics of English everything else would be cake.
